NEW CHEETAHS ON DISPLAY

AT THE MILWAUKEE COUNTY ZOO;

OTHER FELINES TO GET SPECIAL PAPER MACHE’ TREATS

FOR ENRICHMENT

Two new cheetah brothers, who arrived from the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., are now on public exhibit in the Milwaukee County Zoo’s Florence Mila Borcher Big Cat Country. Damara and Nama were born at the National Zoo on November 23, 2004, and were the Zoo’s first litter of cheetahs in its 115-year history.

In conjunction with the Milwaukee County Zoo’s enrichment program, some of the other felines will receive specially made paper mache’ “animals” created in the shape of typical prey for the big cats on Thursday, July 27 at 2 p.m. – when the cheetahs also will be on display.

The paper mache’ animals were made by the Zoo’s volunteer organization, Zoo Pride, and each animal contains a specific food item each individual feline enjoys. The types of food may include beef chunks, mice or oxtails. Felines enjoying these enrichment items may include: Amur tigers, jaguars, snow leopards and hyenas.
