If you're making the trek from further outside Milwaukee, you might consider hitting the tracks.

• Since the 1850s, some people have thought that certain animals use the earth's magnetism to find their way. And while it's true that many animals are sensitive to magnetic fields, magnetism doesn't explain where the mental "map" comes from that enables animals ranging from geese to salmon to find their way across thousands of miles to nesting and spawning grounds.

•Recent experiments with magnetically sensitive lobsters suggest that minor differences in the magnetic field at different spots on earth might actually make up part of the missing mental map that tells certain animals where they are at all times.

Driving Directions

From Chicago:
Take I-94 North to I-94 West toward Madison. Get off at the Hwy. 100 North exit (number 304B). Take a right at the first stop light, which is Bluemound Road. Stay in the right lane. The Zoo entrance is about eight blocks down on the right hand side of the street.

From the North using Highway 45:
Take 45 South and turn off at I-94 West towards Madison. Get off at the Hwy. 100 North exit (number 304B). Take a right at the first stop light, which is Bluemound Road. Stay in the right lane. The Zoo entrance is about eight blocks down on the right hand side of the street.

From the South using Highway 45:
Take 45 North and turn off at I-94 West towards Madison. Get off at the Hwy. 100 North exit (number 304B). Take a right at the first stop light, which is Bluemound Road. Stay in the right lane. The Zoo entrance is about eight blocks down on the right hand side of the street.

Or, take 45 North and exit at Bluemound Road (number 39). Go to the first set of stoplights and turn right. The Zoo is about two blocks down on the left side of the street.

From Madison:
Take I-94 East from Madison. Get off at the Hwy. 100 North exit (number 304B) and turn left. Get into the right lane and take a right on to Bluemound Road. Stay in the right lane. The Zoo entrance is about eight blocks down on the right hand side of the street.

From I-43 up North (Sheboygan area):
Take I-43 South and turn off at I-94 West towards Madison. Get off at the Hwy. 100 North exit (number 304B). Take a right at the first stop light, which is Bluemound Road. Stay in the right lane. The Zoo entrance is about eight blocks down on the right hand side of the street.
