This summer, Sting Ray & Shark Reef makes a swimming comeback to the Zoo! We’re happy to welcome back these toothy, yet tame, animals for a summer stay in their tropical touch pools.
The sting rays are just as soft, and as fun to touch as ever! The graceful cownose ray is found in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, while the southern red sting ray lives in more shallow, coastal habitats from New Jersey to Brazil, and throughout the Caribbean and in the northern Gulf of Mexico.
In the shark pool, get to know the nurse shark, commonly found in coastal tropical waters of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Nurse sharks are nocturnal animals who rest on sandy bottoms or in caves. Also swimming through the pool, you’ll see the bamboo shark, most often found in coral reefs in many areas of the world including Indonesia, India, China and Japan.
Food for the animals also is available for purchase.
